BACKGROUND

These prints are inspired by the concepts of optimism and pessimism, and the way they can be defined in terms of a tendency to focus on 'negative' or 'positive' events. The terms negative and positive are taken literally in the designs, with the interplay of dark and light forming and transforming the narrative of each piece.

The prints are an exploration of the idea that what we focus on becomes a part of who we are, and the shifting relationship between reality and perception.

+ Printing Method

Each print is individually pressed from a hand-carved lino block using the traditional burnishing method. The manual printing process enables texture to be incorporated into the design in a unique way, celebrating the handmade nature of traditional techniques.
